The Cary
Arts Commission (CAC) is a fully funded Commission of the Village of Cary
devoted to the perpetuation of the arts to encourage the development of
art, literature, ballet, musicals, choral societies, creativity and other
humanities in the village.
Established in 1986, the
Commission has hosted a number of activities throughout the years. For
more than 10 years it hosted the Art in the Glades art and music festival.
In 2000, that event was replaced by the Cary Arts Celebration, a downtown
Cary art festival held at the end of August that includes artist exhibits,
a children's hands-on art area and live entertainment such as dance
performances, musical performances, storytelling and more.
During
the annual Cary Days sponsored by the Cary-Grove Jaycees, the CAC hosts
the Children's Music Competition for children in kindergarten through
eighth grade. The event allows young performers to express their
creativity in from of a live audience and a panel of
judges. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place in three age
categories.
Each
Spring the CAC hosts several student art shows showcasing the talent of
young artists in our community. The Emerging Artists Show is an
opportunity for art students at Cary-Grove High School to share their
talents with the community. The Young Artists Show is co-sponsored with
District 25 and features artwork from students in kindergarten through
eighth grade. The CAC provides monetary prizes, ribbons and certificates
for these events.
The Cary
Arts Commission has a long history of providing scholarship money to
students in junior high and high school that has enabled many to
participate in such programs as Summer Band Camp and Summer Art Camp at
Northern Illinois University. Since it's inception, the CAC has awarded
thousands of dollars in scholarship money to Cary-Grove High School
students to pursue art and performance related fields.
